Customer Success Story: Circle X Land and Cattle

On 12,000 acres of Texas range, Steve Densmore manages over 3000 head of Brangus cattle at Circle X Land and Cattle. The registered and commercial cow-calf operation is located north of Bryan, Texas, and has celebrated 15 years of success.

Densmore said that Circle X has used CattleMax since December of 2000, but they are just beginning to fully utilize the program, especially with the implementation of an electronic identification program this fall.

Densmore said he learned about CattleMax at the Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course, and ordered soon after. Circle X currently uses the program only for their registered herd, but they are beginning to transfer their commercial cattle records.

Ann Skeide, ranch secretary, said that the ease of entering the animals into the system and being able to retrieve calving information are the most beneficial features of CattleMax.

"The most important thing is that the program is user-friendly," she said. "That's better than any feature. It's pretty self-explanatory, and if there is a problem, it's easy to correct it."

Skeide said the herd update feature saves her a good deal of time when moving groups of cattle to new pastures or when cattle are worked in large groups.

She said she also appreciates the versatility of the program. "You can design the reports you need," she said.

Skeide said that she is interested to see how CattleMax will work with the EID tags and tracking system they are implementing. She said is still learning how to use the program more in-depth, but is finding CattleMax very helpful in providing managerial reports for her to show the owners of Circle X.

Skeide said that Circle X highly recommends CattleMax to anyone who visits their ranch.

"If you are looking at software programs to give you information readily, use CattleMax," she said. It's very user-friendly, and you can modify it to fit your needs. It's well worth the investment."
