For more than a decade, DeShazer Cattle Co. has managed their registered Hereford operation just north of Bryan, Texas. Today, they have a 600 cow herd, two annual production sales and are committed to growth and expansion.

Four years ago, DeShazer was introduced to CattleMax software at the Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course, after using another software program. CattleMax is now an integral part of their herd management.

"We use so many things in CattleMax it is hard to pick just one," Fiona Lockhart said, "The things we use the most are embryo inventory, flush summaries and custom reports and I really like the ability to use the herd update function to update several cow records at one time."

DeShazer uses the custom reports available in CattleMax most often, and they have also found a new way the software aids in managing their herd.

Lockhart said, "CattleMax has a great way to track our weight gain testing on our bulls using current weight and weight reference dates to help calculate the data."

"You can collect all data, from weights to frame scores to scrotal circumference within a few minutes without digging through things," he said, "The information is at your fingertips."

"CattleMax has helped us keep complete cow herd records in one place that are easily accessible," she said, "It is very up to date with our needs in record keeping."
